Bluegrass have been making mountain bike specific helmets since 2008 but their expertise and experience goes way beyond that, Bluegrass is part of the MET Helmets brand, MET Helmets have been designing, testing and manufacturing helmets for over thirty years, from their HQ in the Italian Alps.
Bluegrass was created to respond to the specific protection needs of the enduro, downhill and BMX worlds, their mission is to create products that enhance your experience on the bike. Their award-winning protection products take safety to the next level and your confidence too.
Supporting athletes like Martin Maes, Marine Caribou and Dean Lucas as well as events including the Enduro World Series, Bluegrass have built a reputation as an integral part of gravity sports.
Bluegrass have both full face and open helmets in their range, if you are riding or racing downhill, enduro or freeride then it’s better to choose a helmet with chin bar protection for added safety in high-speed impacts. For everyday trail riding or freestyle, where weight and breathability are key, an open face helmet is generally better.
Their full-face offering comes in the shape of the Legit and Legit Carbon which offer the highest level of protection and performance and the Intox which is a great value helmet.
The Legit design is a hardcore full face helmet designed specifically to protect and perform at the highest level of gravity racing, without compromise. The Carbon version is top of the Bluegrass range and is constructed with an advanced Carbon Fibre shell, this reduces weight while maintaining impact performance. It also features Mips for advanced rotational protection.
Both Legit helmets feature a unique safety release flexible visor to reduce neck injury in impacts, removable and washable padding, hearing vents and air channeling to keep your head cool. Needless to say, the Legit surpasses all safety certifications including ASTM.
The Intox is a budget friendly full face which still features removable padding, adjustable visor and neck brace compatibility, most importantly it is also fully certified for CE, AS/NZS and ASTM.
Trail & Park
For trail riding, Bluegrass have designed the Rogue with cutting edge features that help you ride without distractions. These include easy on/off fidlock magnetic buckles, sunglasses and goggle stowage, advanced air channeling for temperature control and the Safe-T Heta retention system that ensures no pressure point, just a stable, comfortable fit. On the safety side the Rogue has extended coverage on the rear and temples, a flexible visor and with the Rogue Core Mips you also get the addition of Mips® rotational impact protection.
Freestyle, dirt-jump and BMX riders are also catered for with the Superbold, a skate style lid with hard ABS outer for durability.
Rogue Core Mips
Bluegrass have also channeled their knowledge of impact protection into a range of body armour that just about covers you from head to toe, including back protectors, elbow and knee pads plus padded shorts too. Like their helmets they offer different levels of protection and flexibility depending on your requirements and use cutting-edge technology like D3O to absorb impacts without compromising on comfort and performance.
The Skinny D3O pads are designed to be everyday riding protection you will hardly notice until it’s needed, whilst the Solid D3O adds extra padding on the sides for increased protection against harder hits.
Their award winning Seamless D3O body armour blends the highest level of baselayer technology with breathable D3O pads that you will forget you are even wearing.
There’s also the mesh-based Armour Lite protection vest and Wolverine under shorts, both of which feature EVA foam inserts for protection.
When it comes to gloves, Bluegrass believe there’s a glove for every rider. The Prizma 3D offering the most protection with TPR guards on the back of the hand and knuckles. The React is a full coverage glove that’s as home on a downhill course as it is doing XC laps and the Union is equally versatile for trail and BMX riders. All of the Bluegrass glove range feature soft touch thumbs for lens cleaning, capacitive seams for touchscreen use and breathable stretch fabrics for comfort.
