After all the action of London 2012, this weekend will see an amazing spectacle of cycling action in Hamberg, Germany, with almost all of the world's elite sprinters registered for the 17th Vattenfall Cyclassics, and we're certain that the action will be fast and furious!
Leading the outstanding field of competitors is British sprinter Mark Cavendish. The 27-year-old from the Isle of Man showed us earlier in the year at the TDF that his dynamic and explosive power can prove hard to beat. With a disappointing 29th place in the Olympic Road Race, Cavendish will be highly motivated to put his Olympic disappointment at the back of his mind and take the honours in Germany.
Lining up against him, two sprinting stars Andre Greipel and Peter Sagan also have great ambitions for the race in the Elbe. Born in Rostock, Germany, Greipel has truly established himself this year with three stage successes at the Tour de France. Now installed alongside the world's best sprinters, Greipel will be on the hunt for the German colours. Fellow TDF star, The Slovak "miracle child" and winner of the TDF Green Jersey, Peter Sagan is also certain to bring something to the party in Hamburg and his victory celebration could once again be a highlight.
Behind these top three favorites await a huge group of very capable riders such as Oscar Freire and Tom Boonen, both previous World Champions and in with a chance to take another prestigious success. CRC's prediction is that both the Spaniard Freire and Belgian national hero Boonen will probably try to be in the break towards the end of the finals to escape the chance of a mass bunch sprint. Other riders to watch will be the defending champion Edwald Boasson Hagen, German Sprint jewel Marcel Kittel, Australian Matthew Goss and the exceptional talent of Frenchman Arnaud Demare.
Chain Reaction Cycles are delighted to sponsor this edition of the Vattenfall Cyclassic and will be in attendance all weekend.
