7 weird and wonderful moments from the 2016 Tour de France

Congratulations to Team Sky rider Chris Froome who sealed his win on the Champs Elysees yesterday on the final day of the 2016 Tour de France. It’s the third Tour de France win for Froome, who rode dominantly throughout – backed up by a strong team effort.

Inflatable banner collapses onto Adam Yates

With 1km to go on stage seven of the 2016 Tour de France, the Flamme Rouge comes crashing down, with Orica-BikeExchange rider Adam Yates taking the brunt of it.

Bikes x-rayed for motors

Katusha tweeted this photo of one of their bikes beign x-rayed for hidden motors after the time-trial on stage 13.


Chris Froome’s descent

This was incredible – Chris Froome attacked his rivals on the descent of the Col de Peyresourde on stage eight, in a position not to be attempted on your local ride!


Sagan does Gladiator

Thrown in with all the on-board race footage and replays of the world’s biggest bike race was this promotional video featuring the sport’s biggest rock star, Peter Sagan, dressed as Gladiator…(needs to be seen to be believed).


Froome runs up Mont Ventoux

The biggest talking point of the 2016 Tour de France, Chris Froome runs up part of the stage 12 course on Mont Ventoux after wrecking his bike in a crash with Richie Porte and a motorbike.


Quintana gets a tow

Following the Froome crash, Nairo Quintana gets a cheeky tow from the Mavic Neutral Service motorbike…


The crowds

As with every bike race, the crowds played their part in this year’s Tour – here we see a spot of self-policing going on.
