Vitus rider David Montgomery won the 2015 Irish Elite Cyclocross Championship over the weekend in Swords, Dublin, up against tough opposition.
A crash in the first 200 metres of the race couldn’t keep David from the win, as he explained after the race: “I’m delighted. Never seen lads as excited to hit a headwind as the race start – so from fourth row back I got caught up in the inevitable pile up about 200m in, losing a good 20 seconds before I'd ridden 10!
“Solo headwind pursuit, made the front within the first lap and rode with a strong Glenn Kinning for a bit. Rear puncture, rode round on that for a while, got the other bike from the pits and got my head down. That seemed to work, so kept the head down and kept it smooth and pulled out a decent old gap
“Such a massive thanks to everyone who helped through the day – felt like I had the handy part just having to ride the bike!”
