The next round of the MTB Marathon and Vitus Sportive Series takes place at a brand new venue in Abergavenny, Wales, on the weekend on the 4th-5th August 2012, and it promises to be another top notch stop.

Following a great round at Marshbrook in Shropshire earlier this month we’re really looking forward to tackling this new course in Abergavenny. Famous for its quality riding and breathtaking countryside, Abergavenny will offer an amazing route through some exciting trails with stunning views of the Brecon Beacons.

As ever, MTB riders will have the choice of 30/50/78km courses with a route on offer to suit riders of all abilities and ages. It’s always great to add a new round to the Series, and we hope this one will have plenty to offer for both competitors and family alike.
Contrary to our other stops in the series the first event of the weekend will be the Chain Reaction Cycles MTB- Marathon on Saturday (4th August) followed by the Vitus road sportive on the Sunday (5th August).

Around 400-500 riders will opt for either one of the two fantastic but demanding sportives on offer. With some ‘proper’ climbs up his sleeve, course setter John Lloyd may well turn what may appear to be a gentle stroll into a real challenge.

The sportive routes will take you through some stunning valleys and over a couple of memorable mountains. Starting by travelling north, along the Llanthoney valley and black mountains over Hay Bluff, you will see stunning views of the Wye valley and the picturesque town of Hay on Wye. With a great descent down through the Wye Valley, riders will travel west towards Brecon and the Usk Valley to follow the Monmouth canal to Llangynidr and the second big climb of the day over Llangynidr Mountain.

The final leg home will see you overlook the ‘Heads of the Valleys’ taking in the notorious descent off the Blorenge to the Usk valley, meandering back towards Abergavenny.

With the Pasta party on the Friday night, a great live band on Saturday night and an on- site bar open throughout the weekend, this is one stop of the series you don’t want to miss.
