The London UCI Track Cycling World Cup took place over the weekend in Lee Valley VeloPark, London, where international teams from 39 nations battled it out for glory.
Chain Reaction Cycles were proud to support this pretigious event, and we enjoyed meeting visitors throughout the three days of exciting racing.
Spectators from around the world poured in across the weekend to watch all six of the men’s and women’s track cycling disciplines and a home crowd exploded every time Team GB picked up each of their four gold medals.
Winning the men’s and women’s quartet, the men’s Madison and the women's omnium, the roof almost got lifted off the VeloPark in Queen Elizabeth's Olympic Park by Team GB cyling fans.
Laura Trott rode to success in the women’s omnium on Sunday evening and women’s quartet along with Elinor Barker, Katie Archibald and Ciara Horne on Friday night and brought home two Gold Medals just like she did at London 2012.
It wasn’t all plain sailing though, with the ferocious speeds the cyclists were racing round the velodrome, crashes were almost inevitable, and Team Netherlands took a nasty fall on Saturday night in the men’s Madison final.
But team Netherlands bounced back and Jeffrey Hoogland gained a place on the podium by winning gold in an astoundingly tight men’s sprint final against Fabian Puerta of Colombia.
