Synonymous with downhill racing at the highest level, Shimano’s Saint groupset is ridden by many, rated by all and shredded by the best. Greg Minnaar piloted his Saint-equipped bike to World Champs victory at the weekend, so need we say more?

We were lucky enough to get our first glimpse of the new M820 setup at this year’s Eurobike, so let’s take you through what you can look forward to (there's a whole gallery of pics below).

Shimano Saint M820 Disc Brake
Utilising Shimano’s ICE Technology the new Saint brakes are better at reducing heat and improving performance than ever before. Finned brake pads, self insulating ceramic pistons and a three layer rotor construction aid performance, while a 30mm aluminium banjo fitting and a finned rotor help to reduce operating temperatures by increasing the convective surface area. The new rotor reduces heat by 50 degrees and creates 20% more stopping power, eliminating brake fade and increasing pad life.

Shimano Saint M820 Crankset
Strength and light weight – two key areas for taking the racing edge and Shimano have obliged with the new Saint cranks. Forged from premium Duraluminum to form a light weight, extremely strong crank set. The single-only crank is available with multiple chain ring options.

Shimano Saint M820 1×10 Speed Trigger Shifter
Instant, effortless shifting with maximum adjustment options – that’s what you get with the new shifter. Tweak to your heart’s content with advanced ergonomics on the new 1×10 trigger shifter. Longer levers (+5mm) and textured paddles combine with low friction ball bearings to reduce shifting effort on this gravity specific shifter. Base shifting effort has been reduced by up to 37%, so that on-trail shift effort is as light as ever.

Shimano Saint M820 Shadow+ 10 Speed Rear Mech
New chain control and silencing technologies in the new RD-M820 are a game changer for gravity riding. In addition to the proven Shadow Plus RD design, a Saint specific, high durometer urethane bump stopper (between the RD and the dropout) was added to reduce impact noise. Now 10-speed, the new RD-M820 features a durable super wide link that serves as the backbone of the DH parallelogram. Ready for track and trail, the mode converter easily adapts between two settings for MTB cassette gear ratios (11-32, 11-34, 11-36) and road (11-23, 11-25, 11-28).

The all new M820 Saint group advances to using a 10-speed drivetrain. From close block road cassettes to wide range MTB 10-speed cassettes, Shimano offers the gear range you need.

Both front and rear hubs offer reliability and solid performance with angular contact bearings for total efficiency. The rear hubs have a super quick 10° engagement for added speed and durability.

The third generation of Saint now includes its own signature flat pedal.
