SRAM release details of new XX1 groupset
SRAM have released details of a brand new mountain bike groupset, XX1, which is set for release in October 2012, and you can be sure that Chain Reaction Cycles will be doing our best to secure this hot bit of tech as soon as possible!

Watch this video to see SRAM XX1 in its natural habitat – on the trail. See below for more details and pics of the new groupset.

Simpler, lighter and more durable than anything before, XX1 is driven by a cutting-edge, single-ring carbon crank and delivers fast, precise shifting for 100% performance when the going gets rough. SRAM XX1 uses an all-new X-Horizon rear mech with Type 2 technology alongside a super wide range 11-speed 10-42T cassette…Here’s the lowdown:

XX1 crank

SRAM have developed the XX1 crank for maximum chain control, with each tooth’s thickness precisely CNC-machined to support the chain’s inner and outer links perfectly. Six chainring sizes are available to tweak your gear range to match the trail, and each of the X-Sync chainrings fit a single universal spider – allowing you to swap rings without removing the crank. Simple but clever.

X-Horizon rear derailleur

A horizontal parallelogram design and pulley offset allow the derailleur to keep the chain gap constant across all 11 gears, providing fast, precise shifts. All movement to the horizontal axis is limited, allowing for faster shifts, less shift force and there’s no chance of ghost shifting. Other regular riding bugbears like chain slap and chain bounce are minimised too as a result of the Roller Bearing Clutch technology.

XX1 Cassette

The new lightweight (260g) cassette ranges from 10- to 42-teeth, delivering a wide gear range in even, optimised steps. Its open design allows for easier cleaning, precise shifting and longer component life.

XX1 trigger shifter, grip shift, chain

Completing the XX1 gruppo, the lightweight, dependable shifters and strong, reliable chain combine with the crank, derailleur and cassette to make this one of the most performance-packed mountain bike groupsets on the market.
