It was a dream end to Team CRC Mavic rider Sam Hill’s first full Enduro World Series season in Finale Ligure, where he took the overall win and was crowned the new Enduro World Series Champion.
As ever, Team Manager Nigel Page was there to bring us this report:
After a long season and eight gruelling rounds of the Enduro World Series it came down to the final round in the famous seaside town of Finale Ligure to decide who was to be crowned the Enduro World Series Champion.
Watch Sam’s journey to EWS domination:
Sam came into the final round with his title ambitions still on course, but it was still going to be a close battle between the downhill legend and France’s Adrien Dailly, the young enduro phenomenon.
Only 110 points separated the two riders, which meant that if Adrien won in Finale, Sam needed to finish top four, so no easy task.
This year Finale had seven super tough stages over two days, I would say the toughest ever with the first stage being the longest of the season and maybe ever in Enduro World Series history. The stage was super technical – downhill at the top then into very technical rocky sections and then another seven minutes plus of pedalling at the end.
Every stage was tough with technical sections and lots of pedalling also with climbs in every stage so super hard on the body.
Sam, even though he was nervous, rose to the occasion and finished second on stage one, third on stage two and fourth on stage three, putting him in second place with Adrien in third, so he was on target for the title.
On day two there were four stages – all pretty pedally but with some really high speed sections and technical parts too.
Sam rode a little reservedly to try not to crash or have a mechanical and finished eighth, 11th, eighth and 25th on the final stage to finish third overall for the race – 20 seconds in front of Adrien in fourth to take the Enduro World Series title!
A huge congratulations to Sam on behalf of everyone on the team we are so proud of you. Thanks very much buddy, it makes all the hard work worth it.
A special thank you to Sam’s long term friend and mechanic Jacy for his awesome work and support for Sam, everyone involved in the team from all our amazing sponsors all our families who help out behind the scenes.
Cheers and here’s to next year to try and do it all over again.
