Red Bull’s annual Foxhunt takes place in Cave Hill Country Park, Belfast, this Sunday where downhill mountain bike rider Gee Atherton, ‘the fox’, will hunt down 75 riders, ‘the hounds’, on the 5.3km enduro track.
The hounds will get a 10 second start before Gee is let loose, chasing them down through the singletrack, drops and jumps as he goes. Here’s a little taster of what to expect:
This was the last time Gee was in action at the Red Bull Rampage – this weekend's challenge won't be quite as gnarly, but the competition will just be as fierce to get to the end of the run in one piece!
This was taken during last year's Red Bull Foxhunt, where almost 300 riders lined up at Ballinastoe Woods, Co. Wicklow, ready to sprint from the chasing fox!
And they're off! The pack of hounds head down the mountain before Gee charges after to eliminate each one…
The hounds head into the trees, but there's nowhere to hide from the World Cup rider.
Another one's about to bite the dust as Gee Atherton rails it down last year's course.
A mix of singletrack, fireroad and downhill sections will make up the course at Cave Hill, with 285m of vertical descent and 45 vertical metres of climbing.
If your bike had a rear-view mirror this is what you'd have seen last year. Gee coming from behind at lightning pace!
We'll bring you a full round-up of the Red Bull Foxhunt 2012 next week – good luck if you're riding!
