CRC staff members Christopher McGlinchey and Ian McIntyre along with CRC/Nukeproof Team Manager Nigel Page made it a memorable Sunday for the company, picking up National titles at both the Irish and British Championships this weekend.
With a new track in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary playing host to the Irish National Champs for 2012, there had been a great deal of media attention ahead of the weekend. What would the track be like? Was it fast? Would it hold up to the weather? Champs organisers David Morgan and Rory O’Keefe had done a great job in getting everything ready for the weekend and the weather seemed to be playing ball!
Ian McIntyre (CRC House brands Manager .. and once again Irish Champ!); ‘I’m super happy to regain the title again after a tricky weekends riding on a tight course with variable weather conditions. I had a solid seeding run ending up just 0.5secs behind Joe (Ward) but knew that I’d have to step it up for my race run. I had a good race run to win the title by 4secs.’
In the Junior Category, CRC Customer Service member Christopher McGlinchey took 1st place by just 0.05secs ahead of Team Nukeproof teammate Dan Sheridan. ‘I’m really happy on taking this win after a mechanical last year’ said Chris. He continued ‘The new venue was great with the track flowing really well. The huck to flat on the finish was mad! My seeding run was OK but just a little slow everywhere – so I knew I had to pick it up for the finals on Sunday. With the rain falling on Sunday morning the track got a great deal harder to ride with the small exposed roots being hard to tackle. I attached my race run and made a few small mistakes but still ended up 2secs faster than my seeding run which was (just) good enough for the win! Thank you to everyone who helped me out over the weekend.’
Over in Moelfre, the UK’s fastest racers went head to head to take the title of British National Champion. CRC were well represented with the CRC/Nukeproof Team out in force.
Team Manager Nigel Page took the Vets category win, adding to his podium place at the BMX Worlds earlier this season. Excited on his win Nigel says he’s simply enjoying being on his bike. ‘The race was great at the weekend and the weather was amazing. We had a solid weekend as a team and I managed to take the jersey in the vets. I’m just really enjoying riding my bike at the moment.’
