There are few environments more suited to testing the durability and performance of winter MTB clothing than the Scottish Highlands.
And this is precisely where Chain Reaction Cycles Category Marketing Manager, Geoff McComb, gave Endura’s MT500 range the challenge of a lifetime – donning the range throughout one of the world’s toughest races – The Strathpuffer.
This 24-hour test of will-power, grit, and insulating fabric, takes riders through an icy wilderness, where treacherous rocky patches and snow covered mud offer the only relief.
But despite the ferocious cold, our competitor remained warm throughout.
Speaking about the performance of his Endura wear, Geoff said: “Everything worked flawlessly. The only time I started to get cold was when I stopped, but the first climb after I set off again sorted that.
“Endura’s Baa Baa Merino Long Sleeve base layer, Baa Baa Beanie, MTR Merino socks, Windchill tights and MT500 waterproof shorts were the basis of the entire ride.
“Gloves wise, I switched between MT500 Waterproof and Pro SL Primaloft, and had warm hands for the full ride.
“On top I started with the MT500 Thermo jersey over the merino base layer. When the temperature dropped, I layered-up with the MTR Primaloft jacket over the top and ran the MT500 waterproof jacket when the sleet came around 7am.
“I was warm and comfortable for the entire race!”
The very same jacket Geoff used to power through the Strathpuffer, the Endura MT500 uses an ExoShell60 three-layer fabric to keep the wet stuff out while remaining highly breathable thanks to an ultra-thin membrane within. This also does a great job of transporting sweat away from the body keeping you dry and comfortable from the inside out.
This padded tight uses a durable Lycra outer and fast drying inner for an unbeatable outdoor performance.
Endura’s MT500 II Gloves offer impact friendly comfort due to the hard-wearing synthetic leather palms. Manufactured with critical padding and a four-way stretch, its breathable mesh back with knuckle protector panels offer complete protection.
With a moulded rubber toe cap with rigid underside, the MT500 Overshoe offers welcome assistance when climbing steep or muddy slopes. With a sole constructed from aramid fibres, known for their strength, these overshoes are made to last.
These MT500 Spray II Baggy Shorts from Endura are made of nylon and have lightweight, durable four-way Cordura front panels for added flexibility and durability, while being resistant to abrasions, tears and scuffs. The shorts also have waterproof, three-layer, seam-taped rear panels for spray protection and a flexible wicking waistband with Velcro side waist adjusters to give you a customised fit.
