January 3 marks just 100 days until the second International Day of Dirt (IDD), giving the planet’s mountain bikers another opportunity to get together for a day of action on the world’s best trails.
The 2019 global shred will take place on April 13, and is expected to be bigger and better than 2018’s hugely successful inaugural event.
Its first outing saw thousands of riders around the world hit the trails to have a blast and push their bike and gear to the limit. And once again, the world’s riders – whether newbies or veterans – are invited to post their training videos and preparations as the big day draws close.
Organised by Chain Reaction Cycles and aimed at bringing the world’s mountain bike community together for a day of trail-tearing action, the IDD is the perfect opportunity to join MTB enthusiasts everywhere for a day of exhilarating mountain bike experience.
Three feature locations were chosen to lead the international event during 2018, with hundreds of riders turning up at Revolution Bikepark in Wales, Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, and Kalamunda Mountain Bike Park in Australia, for food, freebies, and a chance to meet world famous riders, including Sam Hill and Elliott Heap.
An announcement detailing this year’s key locations will be shared soon, but you can take part even at your favourite local trail.
Check out the highlights of 2018’s event below:
Alongside these feature locations, thousands of other trails across the four continents saw riders putting tyre to dirt for the day.
During build-up to the event, the Chain Reaction Cycles Instagram feed was inundated by riders preparing for IDD descents, jumps, and berm-busting speed.
Since then, videos and pics have continued to flood in, as the riders around the world show off their sensational skills and event day experiences.
Take a look at just some of the highlights below, and make sure you save the date of April 13, 2019 for the next outing of the IDD.
And, if you’re starting your preparations early – and you should be – hit us up with footage of you and your biking buddies giving it the full send no matter where you are. Tag us at #dayofdirt and follow us at #chainreactioncycles to keep up to date with the competition.

Until then, here’s a few of our favourite #dayofdirt uploads…
Check out the twin air posted by ‘the_wheel_smasher’ in Chicksands Bike Park.
‘_ajb_93’ advocates flats for life just like Sam Hill, with this pic of a great looking BMX.
‘jamiewelford’ grabs more than his fair share of air in this pic.
‘thewheeldeal04’ puts his hardtail through the paces over some pretty gnarly rocks. Good balance and control on display.
The ability to reach places no one else can is the beauty of mountain biking, and this truth is illustrated wonderfully in this one pic.
For this video, ‘mtb_gym_life’ took the budget-busting decision to travel all the way to Westeros for a ride through Winterfell. Fair play…
