Tyre maker Goodyear has applied its engineering know-how to the bike world, producing a premium MTB and road tyre range ready to dominate the world’s tarmac and trails.
You might not realise it but Goodyear’s first ever product was a bicycle tyre back in 1898 – and after many years of dominating the motorsport scene, they’ve re-entered the cycling world with a range of road, mountain bike and gravel tyres.
Take a look at the MTB range in our video:
There are four models in the MTB line-up, which cover the full range of trail terrain.
The Goodyear MTB range, including the Escape, Newton, and PeakFor cross-country, Goodyear have developed the Peak; for enduro there is the Escape; while downhill riders enjoy a choice of two – the Newton and the Newton ST.
Available in 2.4in and 2.6in widths, the Newton tyre is expected to be one of the most popular choices. And the Goodyear MTB range got off to a good start, recently winning the Most Wanted and overall winner award in an MBUK Magazine tyre grouptest.
The Newton is available for both 27.5″ and 29″ wheels and is built for high rolling efficiency and traction. There are two different compound choices – Dynamic R/T for all-round use and the softer RS/T compound for conditions where you need to prioritise traction over rolling speed.
Sitting alongside is the Newton ST, available with either an enduro or downhill casing and with the option of either a Dynamic R/T or Dynamic RS/T compound.
Taller, beefier and more aggressive than the Newton, the ST has been built to maximise front grip on loose terrain, so it makes a perfect pairing with the standard Newton at the rear.
If you’re after more of an all-rounder then the Escape is worth a look.
With widely-spaced and carefully siped square knobs for grip, Goodyear’s rubber compounds ensure traction across a broad range of trails and the Escape’s durable casings mean these tyres will stay reliable for miles.
Rounding out the Goodyear mountain bike tyre range is the Peak – a fast rolling cross-country model.
A round profile, closely-spaced tread, and supple casing make this the tyre of choice if speed is your main priority. Maximum traction and braking performance are delivered thanks to siping on every knob and the Peak’s Dynamic:A/T compound.
Along with their hi-spec trail range, Goodyear has also added a peppering of premium road tyres, including models perfect for the serious urban commuter and gravel rider.
the Eagle All-Season (pictured above) is Goodyear’s year-round performance road tyre, featuring a sturdy Dynamic:Silica4 compound; minimizing rolling resistance while at the same time ensuring unrivaled traction in the wet.
Transit Speed (pictured above) is the brand’s fast-rolling urban tyre, combining confidence-inspiring handling with great durability, and compatible with the requirements of modern e-bikes.
The Transit Tour takes a step closer to durability, offering utilitarian construction with a directional siped tread offering unsurpassed all-weather traction.
The County (pic above), meanwhile, is the ideal gravel companion, featuring widely-spaced side knobs for confidence on loose terrain, hybridised with a smooth central tread, minimising rolling resistance.
