The downhill race season kicked off at the weekend for Team Chain Reaction Cycles PayPal at the first round of the British Downhill Series at a wet and muddy Ae Forest in Scotland.
Here’s a weekend report from Team Manager Nigel Page:
All the riders (bar Sam Hill) were racing and keen to get 2016 off to a good start after an off-season training and preparing for the 2016 UCI World Cup starting this weekend in Lourdes, France.
There was a big turn-out of many of the world’s fastest riders and on the relatively short track the times were going to be tight.
Elliott Heap put in a super fast run in the Junior Category to place second, just missing out on the win by less than a second.
Joe Smith and Mike Jones running the No.1 and No.3 plates from last year’s BDS rankings were looking real fast through practice and seeded right up at the thick end for the afternoon’s finals.
Mike Jones smashed his chainring on a stump right up at the top of the track on his race run which made it really difficult for him to pedal but still managed the third fastest split time half way down the track but pushing hard to make up for his pedalling, he went down on a turn in the last steep wooded section to end his chances of a win.
Mike is looking super fast and focussed, and looking forward to next weekend’s World Cup.
Joe Smith had a solid fast run also with the third fastest bottom split but with the super fast times he ended up seventh, less than one second off the podium.
We are all looking forward to the World Cup starting this coming weekend where we will meet up with Sam Hill.
Thanks to all our sponsors – our team bikes and all the kit looks ‘on point’ as they say these days!
