A massive congratulations to Chain Reaction Cycles staff rider Chris McGlinchey on taking the yellow jersey win at the Ras Mumhan cycling event, which took place in Kerry recently.
Making the transition from mountain biking (he’s still handy on a mountain bike…), where he represented Ireland in both European and World Championship downhill events, to road has proven a highly successful choice for Chris, who works on the technical team in our Customer Support department.
Speaking to Chris after the triumphant win, he had this to say about standing on that podium:
“The first feeling was relief! It was nerve racking coming into the final day in the leader’s jersey, and although it was a fairly straightforward stage, there was still a chance that I could have lost the lead. So to actually be able to get through the final day and defend the lead it was an amazing feeling.”
Having such a strong team around him, on race day and so much support from managers, family and friends, spurred him to go out there and bring a win back home.
Fresh off the back of this win, Chris is already setting his sights on the future. Depending on Irish selection, he hopes to compete in the U23 Nations Cup Race in Europe. If that doesn’t go ahead, he will be giving it his all at the Tour of Ulster and the An Post Ras.
Chris attributes his success at the Ras Mumhan to strong preparation. Fuelling his body with the right nutrition and of course, doing what his coach, Brian McKinney tells him! He made sure he was going into this race as fresh as possible.
“I had done a few very hard months of training and racing leading up to the race so rest was an important factor in the preparation also.”
Everyone at Chain Reaction Cycles wish Chris every success in his upcoming races.
