CRC athlete Lucy Gossage will this weekend return to Horst in The Netherlands to defend her ETU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon European Championships Title of 2012.

The event involves a 15km run (6laps), 60km Bike (3 laps) and finishes off with another 7.5km run(3 laps). After a win at the British Elite Duathlon Championships, Lucy was entered into this event last year causing a huge upset defeating Sweden's Eva Nystrom who went into the race as the strong favourite.

Coming into Duathlon and being crowned European Champion is a big career highlight for the modest Brit who, last year, also went on to win Silver at the Duathlon World Championships where Nystrom held her place earning Gold and the World Title.
The two will once again battle it out at Horst this weekend but CRC’s Gossage certainly doesn’t approach the race as an unknown. The “Duracell Bunny” is aware going into such a race as reigning champion means you have a target on your back, but is unperturbed by the challenge in front of her.

"This is the first time I’ve gone back to a big race as defending champion and I guess it does feel a bit different to last year when I was a complete unknown. Having said that it doesn't really change my approach to the race – you can only do what you can do!”

Preparations have been well under way for many months, with this being the first race of her 2013 season. Chasing the sun and getting relief from the harsh UK winter, Lucy has spent weeks in Mallorca at training camps and is looking forward to get back to racing.

“I've had a really solid winter's training, with, touch wood, no real setbacks. So the money's in the bank as it were and I'm really excited to get going with my first proper race of 2013 and see where all that training has got me."

The Horst ETU Powerman Long Distance European Championships takes place on Sunday 21st April. More info on the event is available at
