With the recent announcement that CRC were sponsoring three new National trail centres in Northern Ireland, the CRC staffers have been waiting (im)patiently to get out and test the new facilities.
What better chance to create some roost that at the first ever Davagh Enduro. Organised by professional mountain biker and all round nice guy Michael Regan, the event consisted of five timed stages with a good mix of red and black trails being used. Thankfully (for some), the uphill climb (aka “The Widowmaker”) which was ascended (or in some cases crawled) twice wasn’t a timed section!
What goes up must come down … and the technical trails at Davagh Forest made for a great day on the bike against the clock. Michael and his team did an excellent job of marking and marshalling the course. The event was a great social affair with everyone enjoying the challenge however fast (or slow) they were.
The CRC staff and Co had some success with CRC/VITUS Sponsored rider Gareth McKee picking up the overall win, Ali Becket picking up 4th in the Elites, Andrew Cullen securing 5th in the Junior category and Dale McMullan taking 3rd in the Vets.
A special mention has to go to Wayne Davidson who rode for Chainreactioncycles.com for the weekend, picking up the “Spirit of the Enduro” award.
Wayne lost his leg in an accident a few years ago and decided that the Davagh Enduro would be his first MTB Event. For some of us at the event it was a big enough challenge to take on the course, but Wayne’s enthusiasm and determination really was HUGE! It was our pleasure to have you on our team Wayne!
