CRC team rider Gareth McKee has been invited to take part in the Red Bull Foxhunt, which takes place on the weekend of 24/25 November.
The season closer for Irish Enduro style racing, the Foxhunt is a mass start, enduro style race on a gravity-fed singletack from the peak of Cavehill to the gates of Belfast Castle in Northern Ireland. The 'hounds' get a 10 second start before the 'fox', Gee Atherton, chases to pass as many riders as possible down the 5.3km enduro track. (285m of vertical descent with only 45 vertical metres of climbing.)
The course encompasses all manner of terrain including singletrack, fast descents, gravel transitions, forest trails, steep rollable drops and jumps with lung-busting, adrenalin pumping pedalling sections too! This is a true test of man and machine incorporating technical skill and fitness on a fun flowing natural gravity trail.
Gareth has had a great season this year winning the Irish National XC MTB Championships and taking second place in the Ulster XC Champs. A great all round rider, he has also turned his hand to a bit of road racing over the last few months, producing more than a few upsets for the road regulars and taking the line honours at the Noel Taggert Memorial in his hometown. The Banbridge based rider will return to his downhill/gravity roots as he takes on the challenging course which overlooks Belfast.
“I’m really looking forward to the Red Bull Foxhunt, it’s going to be a great end to the season,” he said. “I know Cavehill pretty well but on the other hand a second gap over a World Cup Pro like Gee isn’t an awful lot – but I’m sure it’ll be a great weekend of racing.”
