The Nukeproof Models

The Nukeproof demo models include both the Mega and Scout Ranges in a selection of 27.5” and 29” wheel sizes. The Nukeproof Mega shares the same enduro inspired frame geometry as the Mega Carbon that saw Sam Hill ride to victory in the Enduro World Series in 2017 and 2018. The Scout is a do-it-all hardtail trail bike, with Nukeproof’s trademark gravity focused geometry.

The Vitus Models

The Vitus MTB line up has also won its way to numerous international podiums. Vitus are continually testing their racing pedigree as headline sponsor for the Vitus First Tracks Enduro Cup and the Vitus Gravity Enduro in Ireland. They have also made a few podiums with their new Vitus Pro Cycling Team.

The Blank BMX Models

Blank BMX boast some of their coolest colors to date and stand out as the only BMX brand in our listing.

The Skills Zone Guide

With lots of MTB brands offering demo across the Sea Otter Expo, you will be able to test ride all your favorites at the Chain Reaction Cycles Skills Zone. The Skills Zone is possibly the most noteworthy of four bike demo areas at Sea Otter Classic. Unsurprisingly the Skills Zone is the cycling festival’s MTB Demo Area – the remaining three demo areas cater for e-MTB, Road and Kids bikes.

The Skills Zone is described as a narrow compact dirt track offering a backcountry feel. It takes the form of custom-designed pump track featuring everything from small rollers to larger more advanced obstacles. The track is best suited to intermediate or advanced skill level riders. Above all else, the Skills Zone is a lot of fun so come find us and give it a blast.

You may use any MTB demo bike on the Skills Zone track, with the exception of e-bikes. We will have all the latest Nukeproof, Vitus and Blank Bikes for Demo within the Skills Zone Demo Area. The Chain Reaction Cycles Skills Zone will be open from 9 am to 5 pm from Thursday through to Saturday and closes at 4 pm on Sunday.

To sign up simply pop over to the registration tent adjacent to the Skills Zone. There is no entry fee for the demo areas and it is open to riders of all ages. For the safety of all participants, you’ll need to wear your waiver wristband and an ANSI or Snell approved helmet at all times.

– 5 Bike Demo Requirements –

  1. Waivers & Waiver Wristband

In order to ride any of the demo areas, you must sign a waiver and wear your waiver wristband. Sign up for the demo areas is adjacent to the Skills Zone. In order to take part in the Chain Reaction Cycles Bike Demo, you must sign a separate waiver at the Chain Reaction Cycles booth. If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian may sign the waiver on your behalf.

  2. Identification

To take part in the Chain Reaction Cycles Bike Demo photographic identification must be provided to prove your name and age. Accepted identification formats are a passport or a driving license. If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian may provide their ID and sign the waiver on our behalf.

  3. Credit Card

There is no charge for taking part in the Chain Reaction Cycles Bike Demo activities. A credit card is held for security reasons only and encourages users to return bikes to the correct vendor. If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian may provide this security on your behalf.

  4. An ANSI-Approved Helmet

We recommend you always wear a helmet any time you are cycling. The event organizers at Sea Otter Classic have stipulated that wearing an ANSI-approved helmet is mandatory to ride within any of the demo areas.

  5. Bike Etiquette

When you finish testing a Chain Reaction Cycles Demo Bike, please return it to the Chain Reaction Cycles staff to either demo another bike or collect your security. All bikes must be returned, and all personal bikes and belongings must be collected prior to the Skills Zone closing time. You must observe any safety instructions given by Sea Otter Classic or Chain Reaction Cycles staff.

Top Ten Things to Pack for Sea Otter Classic

  1. Your Helmet –

There are 4 Bike Demo Areas at Sea Otter Classic. To ride the Demo Areas it is mandatory to wear an ANSI-approved helmet.

  2. Sunglasses | Protective Eyewear –

The season begins to change in Monterey around April following a cooler, wetter period. Although not yet summer, the afternoons can still be incredibly sunny and with dryer weather, the dust can really kick up on the Skills Zone and MTB Trails. It is worth packing sunglasses to avoid those wrinkle lines, and if you are racing or riding demo bikes, some protective eyewear will ensure you really enjoy your experience.

  3. Your Bike –

This goes without saying if you are racing, but if you are not racing there are plenty of opportunities to ride your bike both at the event and in the scenic surroundings of the Monterey Bay Area.

  4. Sunscreen –

April is not the hottest month, but the sun in Monterey is still very strong – said the writer from ‘a very red nose’ experience. If you spend any time in the direct sun, you will be happy you packed your sunscreen and favorite snapback cap.

  5. Cycle Insurance –

In our digital era you probably don’t carry around your paper documents, but it is worth checking you and your bike kits are properly covered before you head off to Sea Otter Classic. To make sure you get the right cover to meet our specific requirements, you can get a tailored quotation at Chain Reaction Cycles Insurance. Whether you are leisure or adventure riding, joining a ride out or sportive, competing in a cycle race, traveling with your bikes or camping there are lots of customized options to protect you and your pride and joy.

  6. Your Cowbell –

Did I hear ‘More Cowbell’? The Dual Slalom and Downhill races attract big crowds and the fans like to make a lot of noise. If you have been to Sea Otter Classic before, don’t forget to pack your Chain Reaction Cycles cowbell into your day pack. If you are new to the event, call by the Chain Reaction Cycles booth and sign up for a chance to win amazing prizes and collect a complimentary cowbell (while stocks last).

  7. Autograph Book –

Being the World’s Premier Cycling Festival, some of the big personalities of cycling will be there riding their bikes, hosting demonstrations, hanging out with the fans and of course signing autographs.

  8. Spare tubes, chains & brake-pads –

If you are racing or cycling to and from the event make sure you pack the essential spares. There are a few vendors at Sea Otter Classic selling products or offering bike repairs, but with many vendors only exhibiting it’s not always possible to get your hands on the necessary spare in a hurry. It’s always better to be safe than sorry and pack a few basics in your saddle bag or hydration pack. If you are really stuck call by the big blue tent and we will help as best we can.

  9. Camera | Camera-Phone –

Sea Otter Classic is a fun event that you will want to remember over and over again. There are so many opportunities to get the perfect snap or video of your dream bike, clearing a tabletop or railing a berm at the Skills Zone, selfies with your favorite cycling personality, and don’t forget to check out the photo competitions in the Chain Reactions Cycles booth. To capture all your favorite moments pack your camera phone, action camera, digital camera, your chargers, memory cards and (TOP TIP) a power bank and spare batteries.

  10. Your Lunch Money –

You have just passed a food stand, and something smells delicious, all of a sudden hunger hits you, but where was that ATM you passed? There are ATM’s within the Sea Otter Classic grounds, and some vendors will have card readers, but to beat the long queues or the long walk to the ATM (if you can remember where you saw it) it is a good idea to organize your pocket money before you arrive at the venue. Even if you have a packed lunch you will inevitably see a deal you can’t pass up, a cap you can’t resist, or something quirky you simply must have.

Cycle Insurance

Whether you are racing, cycling to and from Sea Otter Classic, or traveling to the venue with your bike make sure both you (the cyclist) and the love of your life (your bike) have the right insurance cover.

Accidents and loss can happen, but you can take comfort in knowing you have the right cover both on and off the bike. We all have a different story and individual cycle insurance requirements, get a tailored quote for your specific needs at Chain Reaction Cycles Insurance.

Many homeowners or renters policies won’t cover theft or damage away from home or racing. Chain Reaction Cycles insurance provides a policy that was designed to give you the cyclist the specialized cover you need. See our easy to use insurance comparison.

Insurance is available to Chain Reaction Cycle customers. Insurance policies are sold through Sundays Insurance Agency LLC (Producer License Number CA #0K60995 and NY #1405598) and Sundays Insurance LLC (NPN #17669712) 1000 N West Street, Ste 1200 Wilmington, Delaware 19801. Coverage is provided by Markel American Insurance Company and underwritten by Markel Service, Inc.
