The QH Gran Fondo which takes place on 17th June 2017 is probably one of the biggest and most exciting cyclosportives in Europe. After much anticipation from road cycling fans across the globe, the organisers finally opened registration on 1st December 2016. The event attracts 20,000 applicants every year, with only 7000 places available. As there is such a huge demand for the event each year registration takes the form of a lottery.
The Gran Fondo is not for the faint hearted, it is a 200km ride taking you over the three summits of the Col du Somport (1,640mt), France’s Col du Marie Blanque (1,035m) and Col du Portalet (1,795mt). You will pass through a stunning mix of Spanish and French Pyreneen scenery and witness some of the most awe-inspiring mountain passes as the route crosses from country to country.
For those wanting a challenge but are perhaps not ready for the Gran Fondo there is a further 2500 places on the shorter 85km route of the Tr Medio Fondo.
Entries are coming in fast, so if you want to take part make sure to complete the Quebranthuesos.com web registration.
That’s a tough ride, how do I prepare for something like that?
Three huge climbs and 200km of cycling make this one of the toughest and most rewarding sportives you’ll likely take part in. To ensure you enjoy the event you have a few training options, but perhaps the most comprehensive is the QH Training Pack which you will find out more about on the Training QH page at Quebrantahuesos.com. An additional benefit of signing up to the QH Training Pack is that it guarantees your place at the QH without having to be drawn from the lottery. This option closes on the 25th January.
You can also find out not only to how to prepare yourself but also your bike on our ‘How to prepare for a sportive‘ Chain Reaction Cycles ‘The Hub’ article. You’ll find loads of helpful advice and this Top Tips video from racing legend Sean Kelly.
What else can I expect at the QH?
QH also hosts a huge bicycle exhibition with all your favourite bike brands, and of course Chain Reaction Cycles wouldn’t miss it. You’ll be able to check out all our latest clothing, components, and bikes. So whether you need to pick up a few essentials to get you to the QH finish line or just fancy a chat, call by our Big Blue Tent.
Hopefully that’s enough to tease you, now all that’s left to do is sign up, get your bike in order and get a few training miles in. See you there!
